Case Study
Whitney Lyn Allen’s life changed in an instant when her husband, Ryan, suffered a rare allergic reaction that led to anaphylactic shock and irreversible brain damage. His unexpected death left a devastating absence in their family, forcing Whitney to walk through the unimaginable while raising their two young boys.
For her memoir, Running in Trauma Stilettos, Whitney needed a book trailer that could carry the emotional weight of her story with honesty, artistry, and care. This could not feel like a standard promotional piece. It needed to be shaped by her lived experience, and honest enough to invite viewers into the reality of grief without exploiting it.
We began by reading the entire book, allowing Whitney’s own words, memories, and visceral reflections to guide the creative direction. From there, we crafted an original script full of scenes that could visually express the interior experience of loss — the rage, isolation, disorientation, and ache that words alone could not fully hold.
A shattered mirror, an overflowing glass, the darkness of an empty room, and the quiet search for beauty all became part of the visual language. We also incorporated Atlas Orion anamorphic lenses to create a dreamy, ethereal, and unnerving visual experience — as if Whitney were reliving a nightmare she could not wake from. Each frame was designed to pull viewers deeper into Whitney’s emotional world, not simply as observers, but as participants in her journey.
The final film became more than a book promotion. It became an invitation to feel what had been taken, witness what remained, and encounter the resilience of a woman learning to find light after unimaginable loss.
